The first time I went for hike, I had no idea how to prepare. What do I wear? What do I bring? How does this go? I Goggled and read a couple of articles which prompted getting a box of protein bars, vitamin water bottles and hiking boots. As I hiked more and got to know more hikers, I learned a lot along the way. I realized my boots were a size too small. No wonder my toes felt crushed while coming down from a hike. My protein bar was a good snack but too high in sugar and there are healthier alternatives to vitamin water. As I share what I have learned along the journey, feel free to experiment and see what works for you. All that I recommend is to be prepared and do your own research.
Happy hiking 🙂
Summer Hikes Preparation
Hiking boots, high ankles for better support, good grip and comfortable. My boots are Wind River. There are many brands put there. Do your research. It is recommended to buy half a size or a full size bigger.
Insect repellent
Moist wick clothes. You are gonna sweat! 😅 Don’t wear track suits or nylon fabrics. Preferable to wear pants that can be tucked into your socks and boots. (To avoid ticks bites)
Waterproof and sweat proof sunscreen
Hat or cap or bandana
Ice pack
2 liters of water as a minimum
A tightly wrapped protein snack
Bear spray
First aid kit
Crampons for snowy summits
Poles for general support and take strain off knees
Prepare before Hikes
Have electrolytes the night before. 🍉 or alternative
